ECCB2020 goes virtual

The ECCB2020 Organising Committee has been closely monitoring the COVID-19 situation globally and its impact on the conference. As the situation continues to change rapidly, our top priority remains to ensure the health and safety of all the ECCB2020 participants. This is the reason that leads us to announce that ECCB in its traditional format will be postponed to 2022 and a fully virtual edition for ECCB2020 will be organized. This virtual edition - the first one in 19th editions - will be structurally simpler to facilitate attendees' interactions while keeping the spirit of the ECCB series.

As organizers of this conference, we would like to offer a virtual event that is scientifically attractive and diverse. Our main objective is to allow participants to get the most of the conference while connecting from anywhere in the globe. The main event on September 07th and 08th will include a significant number of keynotes and a selection of exciting themed talks organised in two parallel breakout sessions and an ELIXIR plenary session. We are working at the moment to better connect with different bioinformatics communities to showcase their activities within this year’s programme. Due to the reduced format of the main conference, ECCB2020 will not have a dedicated section for Applications and Posters as in previous editions. We would like to ensure an exciting and compact programme while keeping the infrastructure needs to a minimum.

New Trends in Bioinformatics by ECCB is the new format we have designed to virtually host a selection of the ECCB2020 workshops and tutorials. These satellite events will run the week before the main event during the afternoon to promote broad participation at both European and International level. The European Student Council Symposium will be held - also virtually - the weekend prior to the main conference.

We will keep you updated on the new timelines and program for ECCB2020, through our website and our social media, as we finalize them in close consultation with our committees,  participants and sponsors.

Stay safe and healthy,

ECCB2020 Organising Committee
